Loving the return to old school notebooks and pens. Thanks Carl for the inspiration!🙏🙏
Carl, as a fellow Englishman, what happened to tea!! I too drink a lot of coffee 😂 Great video as always and thanks for the tips. Super helpful!!
So useful, Carl, again! Thanks!
Does not seem to be released for iPadOS. Very strange. I see it on my iPhone, but not on the iPad. For all of us who use Fantastical, this is a common feature, just the other way around.
Great summary, Carl! I hope you’ll review Akiflow at some point, which does this and much more with a fully functional calendar connected. That bit about Focus Time, where the calendar got messy as everything stacked up, is solved brilliantly with Time Slots in Akiflow. You could have one called Focus Time (recurring or singular) and then drag tasks into it or even schedule tasks into future ones from the keyboard. Best of all, they’re all two-way synced with beloved Todoist. I’m not affiliated with them and hope Todoist will work to build out their calendar to similar sophistication, but for those willing to spend the money for a big calendar integration upgrade, it’s pretty amazing to use the two together now. (It also complements your Time Sector System really nicely.) Ever checked it out?
Airflow is disappointing. It's very unstable and buggy and is never fully developed to be used properly.
Great summary. Thanks, Carl!
Thank you so much this is so useful. How do you link an Apple Note to a project in Todoist?
Great video I prefer to use a pencil In my planning page
Apple native apps is all I need
I am awaiting iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. From what I know this will be the same in Calendar and Reminders in the new version of the Apple OS.
So am I! Right now you can do that with BusyCal, first seed calendar, calendars 5, and fantastical among a few
I have the iOS 18 beta and it is the same!
Thank you ❤
You're welcome. Thank you for watching. 🙂
Carl - I'm so glad I came across your content. I have boxes of Moleskine notebooks and a few years I switch to digital, but have been flirting with moving back to paper and pen. Your love for paper and pen reminded me of something that's been missing in my life. I'm starting a new paper planner for Q3, and really looking forward to it.
It's so nice to step away from a screen occasionally and do some deeper thinking. Enjoy your notebooks and pens in Q3 🙂
Wooow, MB 149 😊 Congratulations, that's top 3 of f. pens.
You have so big hands that it looks small and thin, but it's giant. And the nib... piece of Art. I'm 2 level earlier, I have my Duofold Centennial Big Red :) Next... who knows, maybe something Japanese with 21k nib ✒️
@@maikeru86 Hahaha Yes, the Parker Duofold Big Red's also on my grail pen list. 🙂
Great video as always Carl. Looking forward to reading your book! On a separate note what nib do you have on the 149? - fine or medium?. It is also something that I hope I have one day :-)
I got the fine nib. I don't have large handwriting and find the European fine nibs are perfect for my handwriting.
I'm going to use Roam Research's new diagram feature in the daily notes section to create a weekly planning matrix. In my case, it will be a weekly planning conceptual map.
this is a great video. Can you make a part two showing us how you go from your analog written notes into your digital task manager? I would also love to see your thought process for categorization of your tasks, such as labels tags categories.
I've done quite a few videos on this in recent months. For labels: ruclips.net/video/HQ9fsMdQAIE/видео.htmlsi=cwShkbk6D0djvlCY My core work are repeating tasks so they do not need to be moved to Todoist - I write them down as it sparks ideas for topics to write about.
Hi Carl First of all, thanks for all your videos, courses etc., they are very inspiring and have help me a lot. Secondly, have you abandoned your "Weekly Objectives Plan" which you previous have promoted? BR, Erik Olsen
Hi Erik, I still have objectives for the week. This method slows me down and causes me to think better and deeper. (Plus, it's a lot more satisfying 🙂)
My radar has gone nuts, opened my mind to all the ideas I have / plans I'd put one side etc - not planning all those for next week, but its great to bubble them up to the surface again! Thanks Carl, a new and improved weekly planning session for me :)
Ah, yes, the radar can go "nuts" some weeks. That's actually a good sign as it's your brain letting off steam (so to speak) and you can evaluate what needs to be done and when.
Congrats on the new Pen, great way to commemorate the book, and Happy Birthday.
Thank you, Neo. 🙂
Thank you this helped me very much
Glad to have been able to help.
Hi Carl! I sent you an email regarding coaching. Can you kindly get back to me when you can? Please? I'd really appreciate it. Or can I schedule a quick 15-minute Zoom chat with you to discuss? Have a great day!
Hey Carl, do we do anything with the “Waiting For” Folder? I don’t recall clearly if you explained how to use that folder in the video
My advice on Waiting For folders is to try not to use them. They become folders stuffed with incomplete tasks and old emails that were never removed once a response was received. Instead, if you're waiting for something, it likely means a task is incomplete; therefore, the task moved forward to another date with a note detailing the email you sent and when.
Very grateful for this info. Perfect way to use Reminders!
Thank you 🙂
Do you manage meeting notes from the project within the project note? Or do you store that elsewhere?
Meeting notes related to projects are kept within their project folders in my notes. All other meetings will depend on what they are for. Most of these random meetings are kept in a dedicated meetings folder.
Getting back into handwriting on paper instead of only typing digital. But am resisting the lure of fountain pens… The most I ever spent on a writing utensil is $130 for Apple Pencil 2. 😬
That's probably a safe move, Jason. Fountain pens can become ridiculously expensive.
I want to move back to Evernote but the incredibly small font size on iOS app with no way to change it per device is what’s keeping me away
I'm sure that's on Evernote's list of things to improve.
Your advice on managing disruptive urges and what they might signal is incredibly insightful and practical. Thank you!
Thank you, and you are very welcome 🙏
Was discussing with my Flat mate today the various reasons as to why we rush. I think often it can be due to feeling guilty cos we ‘wasted time’ earlier in the day doing something which was not a priority. However , as this video brilliantly explains, if I can give more assessment and planning to these activities, I usually just sneak into my schedule, I will have less need to rush, which of course can, sometimes, create problems.
That' so true, Danny. Yet, sometimes, we do need to "waste" a little time. It's when I am allegedly wasting time that I have my best ideas.
💯💯💯
I detest the fact that the week view is easy to read with colour blocks and the month view just has a silly dot next to it.
Loved your efforts in making people life easier ❤
Thank you, Sunil.
what is this widget on the left of the screen? ;-)
Thank's Mac OS widgets
Just ordered! Thanks Carl!
Thank you so much, David.
👏👏👏👏👏 Great video! Thank you Carl. Less hustle, more taking care of yourself.
THank you, Tanya. Glad you liked it 🙂
Just watched this and had to recommend this to all my friends. Great video and love the way you portrayed how not everything we do is a “waste of time”
Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations, Carl!!! What great news, my guru.
Thank you. 🙏
Hi carl, i have your book & working through the relevant videos. When in Todoist do you physically write the task in the time blocked section of your calendar. Or is just knowing what label in the calendar refers to the task & you refer to Todoist to see what needs to be done in that time block.
That's right, Alan. My labels in Todoist match my time blocks. When I do my daily planning, I generally decide what I will do in which block.
I use to push back on your advice of separating projects and tasks but I've finally come around to doing so the last 3 to 4 months and it's made a big difference. I use Todoist & Notion. Managing projects via Notion has been a game changer for me. Largely thanks to the database feature it lets me process them in stages making it really easy to track, plan, and execute. And I can view all of them using filters quickly so it doesn't require a bunch of scrolling. But taking your approach has allowed me to 10x my production workflow as well. Less managing and more doing. So thanks for that!
Glad to have been able to offer you an alternative way 🙂
shifting to neutral is not a bad idea unless of course you're at the top of a hill.
true, but then I'd use engine breaking when descending an icy, slippery slope and go down on my own steam.
@@Carl_Pullein exactly Carl
I am at the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in my career. I stumble on you and your Evernote videos. You present thoughtful and frank views on planning and note-taking. I appreciate the tone and context of your conversation with the viewer. I appreciate your work and commitment to helping others find their systems, thus leading them towards success. Thank you!
Thank you, David. I've so happy to hear you enjoy these videos.
Have you tried including an index at the notebook's front or back - or does scanning solve the potential problem of finding individual notes among the many pages of notes?
This is just a planning book. Once the project has been completed I'm not likely to need to come back to it as I scan the original note into my digital notes for further refining.
Carl, thanks for another great video and simple system that resonates with me. One question if I may- How are you using Priorities in your set-up now? Thanks!
I still use them the same way: P1 Must be done today, P2 tasks for the morning, P3 tasks for the afternoon, P4 evening, and everything else.
Instant favorite!
It’s useful
I’m such a dolt, I didn’t even realise you could create a template in reminders. 🤦🏼♀️
Ah, but now you can have fun setting up some templates 🙂
Great advice. Thank you!
You're very welcome, Paula.
I like the term “protected time”, thank you
You're welcome 🙂
Really great video! "Listen to your body. " Yes!
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Over planning….guilty as charged here.
I think we all are guilty of that one 🙂
First comment! Great video as usual.
Hahaha, thank you.
